Origin story
Papa Loa MORTE, born Jean Jacques during the Haitian Revolution, is a Haitian vampire priest and necro-mystic ruler of Moorholm’s Cemetery District. As a boy, he discovered Master Kwame, who gave him vampire blood and taught him Obeah magic and the secrets of the dead. Jean Jacques eventually surpassed and betrayed his master, defeating Kwame and becoming King of the Haitian Vampires. After his brutal reign sparked rebellion and Kwame returned, Jean Jacques was overthrown and fled to Moorholm. There he abandoned his old identity and became Papa Loa MORTE—the Father of the Dead, commanding spirits, ghouls, and an undead army from the city’s crypts and forgotten tunnels.
Abilities
- Core ability: * Voodoo Vampirism , feeds on blood, souls, spirit energy and memories from the dead or dying.
- Also: Loa Channeling , becomes a vessel for Loa such as Baron Samedi, Damballah and Ezili Dantor, gaining different supernatural enhancements.
- Also: Necrotic Hexcraft , blood-linked voodoo dolls, physical/spiritual curses and bloodline hexes.
- Also: Control of the Dead, commands zombies, ghost legions, skeletal revenants and vampire ghouls.
- Also: Green Death Mask , monstrous green true form that greatly increases his strength and dark magic.
- Also: Death Tongue , communicates with the dead and can compel spirits to reveal information.
- Also: Soul Branding / Mark of MORTE , spiritually marks enemies, tracks them across realms and weakens their resistance
- Also: Spirit Sight, sees ghosts, souls, curses and those marked for death.

- Also: Vampire Hypnosis, uses his voice and chanting to manipulate humans
- Also: Undead Regeneration & Supernatural Strength , rapid supernatural healing and enhanced physical power fueled by blood/soul energy.
- Also: Zombie-Bee Swarm , commands supernatural undead bees used for attack, scouting, tracking and necromantic information gathering. They can interact with death/soul residue and assist his rituals.
- Also: Shadow Walking / Supernatural Movemen, established in the broader Morte canon as mystical shadow-based movement/teleportation.
- Also: Undead Regeneration & Supernatural Strength , can heal major injuries and reattach/regrow damaged body parts when sufficiently supplied with blood or soul energy. Earlier established canon also gives him enhanced strength, speed, agility and durability.
- Signature move: “Granmoun kreyol… bouche’m ouvri pou kase sa ki mal!”, This is Morte’s signature supernatural invocation. He channels his ancestral/Loa power through the Kreyòl chant to break or destroy an evil supernatural force, unleashing his grave magic with his serpent staff.
- Weakness: Holy Obeah Water • Sunlight • Vampiric Hunger • Mirror Glass • Green Death Mask Limitation, Holy Obeah Water blessed by Saint Jacques priests burns Morte’s flesh. Sunlight severely weakens his magic and strips away much of his Loa power. Without blood or spiritual energy, Vampiric Hunger causes his undead body to weaken and slowly rot. Mirror Glass reveals his true monstrous face even while disguised. His Green Death Mask drastically increases his strength and dark magic, but rapidly consumes soul essence, limiting how long he can maintain the form.
- Alignment: Lawful Neutral, Papa Loa MORTE follows the sacred laws of death rather than conventional ideas of good or evil. He protects the natural balance between life, death and the spirit world, punishing those who exploit the dead or violate its laws. Though ruthless and willing to use curses, souls and undead forces, his actions are governed by his own spiritual code rather than cruelty alone.
